Removing Permeate from Wine Using Reverse Osmosis

Kerrick
WINERIES ARE TURNING THE WORLD ON ITS HEAD WITH REVERSE OSMOSIS TECHNOLOGY

Kerrick has sold pressure cleaning equipment into the New Zealand vinification / wine industry for many years. Hot water pressure cleaners in particular have been highly popular with the wine industry for washing down sticky equipment and trucks. However upon a recent trip through the wine region Kerrick staff were surprised to see one of our products being used in an innovative manner to improve the vinification process.

One of the local wineries was using a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system powered by a CAT pump to remove permeate from early stage wine by pumping it through a membrane. Removing the permeate changes the wine’s composition and removes excess alcohol without affecting its quality or flavour.

CAT pumps are ideal for this kind of work as they have a line of pumps specifically designed to carry out RO and are world renowned for their quality and reliability. Every pump is tested as a final step of the quality production process, to ensure the pumps long term performance and that minimal maintenance will be required. In addition manufacturing facilities used by Cat Pumps are ISO 9001 certified.
